I know many people here are hesitant to even think about what is going to happen many months from now (we all know what happens when we take our eye off the ball), but I am interested in hearing what members of this community think we will need to do after George W. Bush is out of office. Is the enthusiam we are seeing sustainable? Will we need 60 Senators to get anything done?
The American people are hungry for a savoir, someone to ride in on a white horse and make everything right again. We know that our problems are too great for one person (even a president) to solve alone. As the saying goes 'We are the ones we've been waiting for'. So how do we take an incredible movement that has the capacity to sweep a Democrat into the White House and turn it into a long term force for progressive politics? I am confident that Barack Obama is aware of this challenge and so I would expect him to implement policies designed to maintain public support and involvement. I find the internet to be very helpful in keeping up with politics and allowing me to get involved, is this something that millions of Americans would be willing to tap into? Are an expansion of political clubs (or other organizations) a key? Barack says 'this is our moment', but I feel this movement needs years to clean up the mess.
